The buoyancy aids (level 50), conforming to ISO 12402-5, are for good swimmers, persons close to the shore or with a means of assistance nearby. These devices are compact and inexpensive, but their usefulness is limited in choppy water, they are not able to protect the user for a long period. Their buoyancy is not sufficient to protect persons who are unable to act. These devices require the active participation of the user. Me, it shocks me a bit because I think it does not fully reflect toustes activities of members of this forum (limited usefulness in rough water). The ISO12402 standard supersedes all EN393, EN395 .. So she incorporates all the constraints of European standards for materials, flotation, accessories .. which we add the requirement of a minimum area of reflective tape (100 cm ²) and other small details. Part 5 of the standard (12402-5) deals specifically vests that we use in a kayak, the "buoyancy aids" a flotation 50N. My comment is, in fact, on the order of 4 May 1995 the FFCK which advocates the use of a lifejacket 70N for paddlers over 60 kg while the standard recommends 50N. This was already the case for EN393 but I was wondering if the manufacturers were making special vests for France with superior flotation to comply with the order. I watched a few races on the jackets that offer manufacturers, said there ISO12402-5 and 50N, but no guarantee (written on the product) to pass the 70N. Given that the quality of the foam changes with the season of production, should I bring my water tank, my weight vest and test before buying?. I wondered if the manufacturers were making specific vests for France with superior flotation to conform to the order. I watched a few races on the jackets that offer manufacturers, said there ISO12402-5 and 50N, but no guarantee (written on the product) to pass the 70N. So I have not looked at what was sold this year, but here the label of a "Mad Matt" slalom bought last year:. Indeed, this vest is clearly consistent with the specification FFCK. But I wonder if models like this, with a flotation attegnant 70N for larger sizes, were also sold outside of France or if it was only developed and manufactured in France. My question was more if I buy a new waistcoat that is certified according to the standard 50N and there is nothing said about the waterline. I watched some vest on the market including SandyLine and it was referred as 50N.
