Power Hand Grips

The MG Midget is actually the heir to the Austin-Healey Sprite. In 1961, British Motor Corporation decided that the descendant of the "Frog-eye" would be more conventional. The company decided to entrust the design down to its two subsidiaries. The front is assigned to Austin and back to MG. It follows that this car has nothing in the eccentricity of the Sprite. The front is very classic and for the rear, we find the pure spirit of MG, with a similarity that is found later on the MG-B MG 1300. The car is then sold under two brands: the MG Midget and Austin Healey Sprite Mk II. Only their grilles can differentiate, and a more accomplished finish on the MG. The reeds on the sides improve the MG line. Initially, cars are equipped with the engine of the "Frog-eye ', which is rapidly improved by increasing the compression ratio, thereby increasing the power of 46-50 horses. Then in 1962 the car gets an engine 1100 cm3 and 55 horses. For the occasion, the new box is now fully synchronized and disc brakes are installed on the front. In 1964, with the appearance of the Triumph Spitfire, MG is forced to raise the level of finish and performance. The Midget Mark II (and Austin-Healey Sprite Mark III) will obtain new larger valves, new exhaust manifold, and then the power reaches 59 horses. But it was the equipment that progresses with side windows, spoilers, door handles on the outside. These developments will have a relative effect, it is the Midget Mark III (and Austin-Healey Mark IV) that will boost sales in 1966. The Mark III receives the engine of 1275 cm3 of the Mini Cooper S (or the Mini 1275 GT), which carries power to 65 horses. This is basically a large number of aesthetic changes that punctuate the career of the Mk III. At first the grille is classic in chrome grill (model yellow). But in 1970, it will become black and slightly behind the front (white model). The rear fenders were rounded, and a third wiper will appear.
